Protecting Water Quality

Water quality is an essential element of the Water District’s responsible reuse plan. In fact, the Water District’s commitment to adhering to the most stringent water quality standards in Texas is one reason the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality approved the innovative plan.

The Water District’s highly advanced water treatment plant design will employ the latest technology for treating wastewater to a level that is clean and safe for families and wildlife.

The community’s clean-recycled water will meet or exceed the state’s safety and quality standards for Type I reclaimed water, which the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality deems to be safe for wildlife, fishing, wading and other recreational activities.

The Water District’s clean-recycled water will surpass the quality of treated wastewater that Austin and all other Texas communities currently release into area creeks and rivers. In fact, it will be the cleanest in the State of Texas. And it certainly is a superior management approach than relying on septic systems that do nothing to clean the wastewater before storing it underground.
